Are You Eligible For NDIS Podiatry?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme offers individuals under 65 permanent and significant funding to access support and services for their disability, such as therapy supports and assistive technology like orthotics. If your NDIS plan includes these elements, podiatry services could also be eligible.

NDIS podiatry SAWe are an NDIS podiatry SA registered provider, able to assist participants who self-manage, plan manage or portal manage themselves. In addition, we bulk bill all Medicare & DVA consultations for Gold Card holders.

General Foot & Nail Care

If you have a registered disability and participate in the NDIS, Podiatry services may be eligible. This national scheme offers participants a reasonable and necessary range of supports to assist them in meeting their goals; Podiatry being one such support. Our podiatrists can assess your foot care needs before developing a treatment plan to suit you.

Our team of highly experienced and friendly podiatrists is committed to helping you meet your foot care goals. Our extensive experience includes treating chronic pain, sports injuries and reducing pressure sore risk – no matter if they’re self-managed, agency managed or plan-managed. Together, we will develop a plan tailored specifically to each lifestyle situation.

General foot and nail care includes trimming ingrown toenails, calluses and corns; treating nail fungus; foot reshaping to reduce pressure sore risk; trimming to reduce risk of pressure ulcers or gangrene; as well as education to promote independence and lower injury risk.

If there is clinical need and your NDIS plan allows for therapy support for daily living, podiatry services at our NDIS podiatry and orthotics Cairns clinic could be available. Therapeutic devices like orthotics require prior approval by NDIS as well as an initial appointment with one of our podiatrists who will assess your clinical need before selecting the optimal device to supply.

Gait Assessments

An individual’s gait during an activity can provide us with invaluable information about their health and the nature of any injuries they might be experiencing. Gait assessments are used to diagnose problems like foot and lower limb pain/stiffness/balance issues/muscle imbalances etc. Evaluation methods range from simple observations up to sophisticated computerised analyses, used widely in medicine, physical therapy and geriatric care as well as being employed by elite athletes themselves for performance optimisation purposes. If found out that you have gait issues, you should contact NDIS podiatry SA.

An average gait assessment involves filming yourself walking and then reviewing it at slower speeds to allow the podiatrist to detect any abnormalities in your gait. A gait analyst will take note of each stride’s length, angle of heel contact with ground surface, direction of ankle movement and arm movements as well as how someone rises and walks straight or if their arms help balance themselves when rising from their seat.

People living with disabilities are at increased risk of falls, so gait assessment is vitally important to their wellbeing. Results can then be used to develop a strength and conditioning program to address areas of weakness. At Be Podiatry, we are proud providers for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The NDIS allows Australians with permanent and significant disabilities to access reasonable and necessary supports that enable them to achieve their goals and live life to its full potential.

Foot Orthotics

At your first appointment, your podiatrist will discuss a comprehensive management plan with you. If you are NDIS managed, at this point we will also establish a “service agreement” to outline all administrative needs related to your plan (future appointments, orthotics and footwear needs, etc) as well as ensure your NDIS funds are spent appropriately.

Foot orthotics are customised inserts worn inside shoes to provide support, reduce pain, align ankles and enhance gait. Foot orthotics can be used to treat conditions including foot, ankle and lower back pain.

At our facility, we offer footwear designed specifically to accommodate difficult-to-fit feet with simple fasteners to aid those who may struggle with regular laces. This range is available in different sizes and widths (including children’s footwear).

National Disability Insurance Scheme participants have access to reasonable and necessary supports that enable them to reach their therapeutic goals. If you would like NDIS podiatry SA included in your NDIS plan, this can be done at either a scheduled or spontaneous Plan Review – typically every 12 months but could also be requested mid-review if goals change or needs have changed significantly. Our podiatrists offer comprehensive assessments tailored to individual needs with personalised plans designed to reach goals while decreasing discomfort.

Footwear

Foot Health Clinic is registered as an NDIS provider of podiatry services and orthopaedic footwear, enabling us to offer both self-managed and plan managed supports under this program.

Our NDIS package can claim for our wide range of medical grade footwear – Revere orthotic shoes and sandals, Anodyne extra depth footwear and Hoka One One joggers are among those available – to support and relieve foot/leg asymmetries, provide pain relief or align them.

Laser therapy and shockwave treatment can be particularly helpful in combatting fungal nail infections as well as improving pain, mobility and stability in arthritic feet. We also recommend home exercise programs designed to build strength, balance, and stability to decrease your risk of falls.
